Archbishop meets St Helen’s

We were delighted to welcome the Archbishop of York to the farm last week, where he made acquaintance with our lovely goats (and staff!) and tasted some of our delicious goats’ milk products. It was a happy afternoon for everyone and we were all taken with his knowledge of farming and his interest in people and how we manage the farm and dairy.

Dr John Sentamu is more than half way through a six month pilgrimage to visit each of his 21 deaneries in the north east of England. He began his journey at Whitby in December and will finish at York Minster on Trinity Sunday, 22 May.

The York diocese is a vast area, stretching from the Humber to the Tees and the A1 to the coast and involves an awful lot of walking to meet communities within the villages, towns and cities of the dales, moors and coastline. It is similar to the 280 mile pilgrimage he completed when Bishop for Birmingham in 2005.

It was a great occasion for all of us at the farm and we like to feel that the Archbishop was helped on his way by a slice or two of our nutritious goats cheese…!
